New Covenant Freedom Real and Practical

What is New Covenant freedom, and how is it experienced in our life today? I think the following will answer that, but first let me explain the differences between the old and New Covenants.

To begin, we as Christians do not worship, fellowship or in any way function or relate under old covenant written law. The old Mosaic covenant was written only for the Jewish nation. It required conformity and adherence to 613 written laws and required animal blood sacrifices as a covering for sin when a sin was committed. Under old covenant law God responded in faith when Jews remained obedient by atoning for any sins committed. God was faithful after Jews responded in faith. Now, not functioning under old covenant principles does not mean we don't respect old covenant law. We just accept and receive it under different conditions. The Old Testament is filled with God's teaching and wisdom for us, and should never be ignored. Our creation story and history is explained there. There also were nine covenants, and most are in the Old Testament. We all should be aware of these. Man couldn't remain faithful and conform to the Mosaic covenant law because man is not perfect. The sinful flesh nature of man gravitated toward breaking God's law. God saw this and realized a need for a better hope for all people.

Hebrews 7:18-19
The former regulation is set aside because it was weak and useless (for the law made nothing perfect), and a better hope is introduced, by which we draw near to God.
Hebrews 8:6-13
But in fact the ministry Jesus has received is a superior to theirs as the covenant of which he is mediator is superior to the old one, since the new covenant is established on better promises. For if there had been nothing wrong with that first covenant, no place would have been sought for another. But God found fault with the people and said: “The days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the people of Israel and with the people of Judah. It will not be like the covenant I made with their ancestors when I took them by the hand to lead them out of Egypt, because they did not remain faithful to my covenant, and I turned away from them, declares the Lord. This is the covenant I will establish with the people of Israel after that time, declares the Lord. I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people. No longer will they teach their neighbor, or say to one another, 'Know the Lord,' because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest. For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.”

By calling this covenant “new,” he has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and outdated will soon disappear.

The New Covenant is this better hope. It fulfilled the promises of the Abrahamic covenant and made obsolete the Mosaic covenant.

2 Corinthians 3:7-18
The Greater Glory of the New Covenant
Now if the ministry that brought death, which was engraved in letters on stone, came with glory, so that the Israelites could not look steadily at the face of Moses because of its glory, transitory though it was, will not the ministry of the Spirit be even more glorious? If the ministry that brought condemnation was glorious, how much more glorious is the ministry that brings righteousness! For what was glorious has no glory now in comparison with the surpassing glory. And if what was transitory came with glory, how much greater is the glory of that which lasts!

Therefore, since we have such a hope, we are very bold. We are not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face to prevent the Israelites from seeing the end of what was passing away. But their minds were made dull, for to this day the same veil remains when the old covenant is read. It has not been removed, because only in Christ is it taken away. Even to this day when Moses is read, a veil covers their hearts. But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.

The New Covenant came through and was established with the twelve Apostles by Jesus Christ; this through His life, death, sacrifice and shed blood on the cross, then His resurrection three days after being laid in the tomb, and the subsequent outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the Apostles at Pentecost. Through Jesus Christ's death and resurrection came our salvation and redemption, which is a part of the New Covenant. Under the New Covenant God is the first to faithfully act for all people through the sacrificial death of His Son Jesus Christ. All this because of His unconditional love for us. Now it is our turn to accept and receive. We all have equal opportunity for access to Triune God.

Colossians 1:13-14
For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

Colossians 2:13-14
When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away,nailing it to the cross.

The New Covenant gives all people of the world opportunity to come to the Father through acknowledgment of who Jesus Christ is and what He did for us. Then we can be forgiven of our sins and have hope for eternal life in heaven. We are now under New Covenant principles of behavior—right and wrong-- which are written in our minds and on our hearts instead of on paper or stone. All this without Jesus Christ changing one letter of the written law.

Matthew 5:17-19
The Fulfillment of the Law
Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. Therefore anyone who sets aside one of the least of these commands and teaches others accordingly will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

Jesus' life and death ushered in and demonstrated the principles of the New Covenant of grace and truth. This grace is the unearned, unwarranted favor and provision of God. Truth is His Word (the Bible). That is why we attempt to emulate Him. We are reminded of it through our conscience, as dictated by the Holy Spirit, who resides in all Christians. The Holy Spirit leads and counsels us in fulfilling our purpose in our walk with Jesus.

Romans 9:1
I speak the truth in Christ-- I am not lying, my conscience confirms it through the Holy
Spirit--

Hebrews 10:15-18
The Holy Spirit also testifies to us about this. First he says:
This is the covenant I will make with them
    after that time, says the Lord.
I will put my laws in their hearts,
    and I will write them on their minds.”
Then he adds:
Their sins and lawless acts
    I will remember no more.”
And where these have been forgiven, sacrifice for sin is no longer necessary.

Jesus' blood erased forever all our sins once and for all; past, present and future. All we need to do is accept and receive Him, and God is faithful and just to forgive us. We are also required to forgive any offense committed against us.

Hebrews 10:12
And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

Romans 6:10
The death he died, he died to sin once for all;but the life he lives, he lives to God.

1 John 1:9
 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

This is how we received the freedom of the New Covenant. The secular definition of freedom is, “The absence of necessity, coercion, or constraint in choice or action.” I believe we can define this as our God-given gift of free will through the New Covenant. We are allowed to make a choice, which requires us to make a voluntary decision FOR Triune God, or not. He wants us to come willingly, as true believers, confident in our hope and displaying our faith through words and action in carrying out His plan and purpose; this in the Body of Jesus Christ (Church) and the Great Commission.

Galatians 5:1
It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.

James 1:22-25
Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.

Matthew 28:16-20
The Great Commission
Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus has told them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. The Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

The other freedoms associated with the New Covenant are numerous. First, and most important, is having no worry or anxiety or fear about anything this life can bring, including and especially death.

Matthew 6:25-27
Do Not Worry
Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?

Matthew 6:32-34
For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

Philippians 4:6-9
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

We are aliens and foreigners here; our real home is waiting for us in heaven with Triune God for eternity.

Ephesians 2:11-20
Therefore, remember that formerly you who are Gentiles by birth and called “uncircumcised” by those who call themselves “the circumcision” (which is done in the body by human hands)-- remember that at that time you were separate from Christ, excluded from citizenship in Israel and foreigners to the covenants of the promise, without hope and without God in the world. But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ.
For he himself is our peace, who has made the two groups one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility, by setting aside in his flesh the law with its commands and regulations. His purpose was to create in himself one new humanity out of the two, thus making peace, and in one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which he put to death their hostility. He came and preached peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near. For through him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit.
Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God's people and also members of his household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone.

John 14:1-4
Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me.  My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.”

So there we have it. Accept and receive Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior and you will receive salvation, redemption, reconciliation, sanctification and justification. It's permanent. We must, because of the love of Christ within us, walk in faith, trust, belief and obedience. We always have hope and His eternal love.

Romans 8:18-21
Present Suffering and Future Glory
I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed. For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God.

Freedom and Surrendering

Let's talk a bit about freedom and surrender. How do you think the average person living in the world would define “freedom”? I believe they would say it is the ability to do what we want, when we want, without having to answer to anyone. I think most teenagers think of freedom that way.

How then, would those same people define “surrender”? I think “to give up” (especially our freedom). Resignation. Despair. Relinquishing. The outcome of surrender, in this mindset, is captivity. The yielding up to another.

How about “captivity”? I think it would be the state of being imprisoned or incarcerated. To be in a state of subjugation, or even enslavement; to be held captive.

And this next one has caused a stir: “submission” or “humility”. I think it's fair to say the worldly definition would be something like a dog rolling over and exposing it's belly. To give up, give in. To be meek, spiritless and groveling to others.

Then there is the worldly view of what “law” is. Most would agree it includes rules and regulations. The flip side of that is “punishment”. The world thinks of this as control and penalty.

OK, now let's look at the actions of “surrender”. What do we do when we surrender? What does it look like? What comes to mind? Waving a white flag? Obeying, but with minimum compliance out of fear of retribution, in rebellion of being controlled? For example, not stopping fully at stop signs, going slightly over the speed limit, doing only what you know you can get away with. I call this the “naughty child syndrome”. Many children (and, from our personal experience, parrots) will approach something they know they will get in trouble for touching, and watch your face to see if you are paying attention. They won't do it until they KNOW you are watching, because it's not as much fun if you don't see them doing it! They wait, perhaps making a noise to grab your attention, and suddenly BOOM! They are doing the one thing they know will get them in to trouble. Why? Because, to a child, or a wicked parrot, bad attention is better than no attention. AND (this is of utmost importance) as long as you are Reacting, they are in control. That's right. THEY are in control. Because they have done the one thing they know is forbidden, and, in their own mind, gotten away with it!

What does that have to do with freedom and surrender? Well, as long as we live that way, pushing the line and getting away with what we can, we are like “naughty children”. We know the difference between right and wrong. We are choosing to push that line, so we can “feel free”. Pushing that margin means we didn't get caught; are not captive to anyone, are not submissive, not being punished or controlled. We have not surrendered our freedom to anyone or anything. But when you really examine it, this is not freedom. This is captivity to something far worse than man.

The worldly view of the Church is very Old Covenant; it is like outsiders looking in. They see laws, judgment, fear (of God), no freedom, controlling, and boredom. In short, it's NO FUN.

Let's see what Webster's definition of freedom is:
The absence of necessity, coercion or constraint in choice or action. Liberation from slavery or restraint from the power of another.

Now, let's talk about Kingdom freedom. In the kingdom of God, true freedom comes from total surrender. In the worldly sense, that makes no sense. God's kingdom means freedom from fear, anxiety, insecurity, loneliness, depression, and any other negative aspect of earthly life. How is that possible?

Worldly surrender means defeat. Kingdom surrender means victory! Think of it this way: In the world, when you surrender, what are you giving up? What do you gain by surrendering? And in the Kingdom, when you surrender, what are you giving up? What do you gain? You see, Kingdom freedom ONLY comes with surrender.

We were created by a God of free choice (or free will). He loves us enough and respects us (I believe that to be true because we know God has self-respect. And He created us in His image. Yes, scripture says He is “a respecter of no man”, but that is different contextually. I mean to say that God respects our ability to choose). He gave us the ability to choose our actions. However he also, in that moment, applies the appropriate consequences for our bad decisions and actions. When your child shoplifts a pack of gum on a dare from a friend, you may forgive that child. But you still march her little buns back to the store and make her apologize to the manager and PAY for the pack of gum, and promise to never do it again. (yes, that was me at the age of 9. And no, I NEVER did it again).

Proverbs 10:9 & 11:3 (integrity)
9 Whoever walks in integrity walks securely,
    but whoever takes crooked paths will be found out.

11:3 The integrity of the upright guides them,
    but the unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity.

God allows us, even after totally surrendering our lives to Him, to control our own lives. Yes, many say that God has total control of our lives; that he is in charge of everything, always. But I do not believe this to be the case unless we choose to make it so. Yes, God knows everything we have done, are doing, and will ever do. But I believe he chooses not to control our decisions, because he loves us.

I believe He waits for us to ASK Him to take control of our lives, our thoughts, our hearts, our actions. He will only control that which we surrender to Him. And I believe that sometimes He chooses NOT to take control of some aspects of our lives even when we ask Him to. He may want US to take responsibility!

What does it look like to surrender everything to God?

I believe and have know many Christians who still “battle” with fear, anxiety, depression, and all the other lies of the enemy. Why? I believe it is because they have NOT totally surrendered themselves; body, mind and spirit, to Christ. Yes, they have received Christ as their personal Savior and asked Him into their hearts. But they have NOT surrendered to Him.

Why would anyone do that, you ask? Why would we receive Christ and withhold our very lives from Him, reserving mindsets and old, worldly ways?

Does total surrender mean you are giving total control of your life to God, and you have no say in it? You see, many are still under the world's definition of surrender, which ALWAYS leads to captivity.

As Christians, we know and accept and believe that we are totally free from sin and death's hold over us, because of Jesus' sacrifice on the cross. He died that we may be saved. But the freedom I speak of is a deeper level of liberty. Certainly freedom from death is incredibly important, because that is what allows us to live in eternity in the Presence of God the Father.
Let's look at what His word says:

1 Cor. 15:54-57
54 When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.”
55 “Where, O death, is your victory?
    Where, O death, is your sting?”
56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.57 But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

John 17:3
Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.

You see, it has been my observation that for many Christians, the death of Christ was not enough to give them peace. It sounds terrible, but I believe it is true, based upon observing and counseling many troubled Christians. At least it was true for me for decades of my Christian walk. For the modern world the life of Jesus Christ was and is not relational. Therefore it is not believable or real. Our commission is to make it real through the power of the Holy Spirit. There are countless scriptures that tell us not to fear, to believe and have faith. So why do so many of us walk in fear?

I believe it is because we fear what total surrender would be like. I can't speak for anyone but myself. But we know this to be true; that God is love. And there is no fear in love:

1 John 4:16-18
16 And so we know and rely on the love God has for us.
God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. 17 This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus. 18 There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.
1 Corinthians 13:3
If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.

I came to a point in my life, after living with anxiety attacks and depression for decades (yes, as a born again Christian) when I realized that being in that state is living in a state of sin. You see, whenever Jesus says something in scripture, it is not a suggestion. It's not even an option (unless he states so). When he tells us “fear not”, he means exactly that. It's not an option, it is a command. Remember in John 14:15, Jesus said “if you love me, you will obey my commands”. He was not speaking of the 10 commandments.

Hebrews 9:15
15 For this reason Christ is the mediator of a new covenant,that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritancenow that He has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant.

All of Jesus' commands filter down into one: Love one another as I have loved you. (John 13:34). When Jesus laid down His life for us, did He fear? No. Fear is lack of trust and faith in God. Jesus could not do that. Would not. It is more true to His nature that when He wept in the Garden of Gethsemane that He wept for us. When He asked if the cup could be taken from Him, it was not out of fear, but from a sorrowful heart.

In my own experience, and after doing much searching in the word and sorting things out with the Holy Spirit, it came down to one thing: I either believed what I read in God's Word, or I did not. I either believed it was for me, or I did not. I can't be a “fair weather” Christian.

John 14:26 (Holy Spirit)
26 But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.

The path I chose several years ago was to TOTALLY SURRENDER myself to God's will, His Word, His truth. Yes, I surrendered control of my life to Him. But God never forces his will upon us.

When I finally realized how miserable I had been for so many years, and it was all because of ego, pride, and yes, ignorance of the Word, I dove in. I asked the Holy Spirit for help. Can I truly live without anxiety and fear: Yes, I can and I do. And believe me, I have been tested.

James 1:22-25

What is our God-given gift of free will, and why do we have it?

(Truth)
John 8:31-32
31 To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.

1 Peter 2:16 (free)
16 Live as free people, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as God’s slaves.

2 Corinthians 3:17
17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.

Psalm 118:5
When hard pressed, I cried to the Lord;
    He brought me into a spacious place.


Psalm 119:45 (freedom)
I will walk about in freedom,
    for I have sought out your precepts

Having read those scriptures, what is truth in relation to freedom?

You see, Kingdom surrender is the true source of freedom. You still get to make your own choices. BUT because of your love and trust in God the Father, you make choices based on the heart of Jesus. You choose to stand on the promises of God. You choose to believe that you are an heir to His throne. You choose to believe in His Word and truth. And you believe they all apply to your life.

I no longer have to decide if I am going to shoplift that pack of gum. I would never grieve my Father that way. God has changed my heart to look more like His heart. My freedom lies in the ability to live without fear, knowing that when my Daddy says He will be there with me, He NEVER lies.

Worldly freedom is based on the knowledge of worldly facts, wisdom and understanding that you can still be imprisoned. Kingdom freedom is based on the heavenly or Kingdom knowledge that you will NEVER be captive to anyone or anything ever again. Most especially to the enemy, unless you so choose. And why, after knowing the love of Christ, would anyone make that choice? Unfortunately, some do.

Kingdom surrender is peace, not inner turmoil. Freedom, not captivity. God takes “submission, captivity, surrender, freedom, and liberty” and re-defines them in love. They now have a Godly perspective. I submit my life to Jesus. I surrender my concerns, cares, family, health, to Jesus. I trust God for my freedom, not man. I thank God for the ability to choose, and liberty to preach His gospel. And I lay at His feet and thank Him for bringing me from servant, to friend to heir. No situation ever got better because I worried about it. ALL things get better because I surrendered them to God, and because He will never leave me or forsake me.

Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.”


What is your mindset? I want to encourage you to realize that anxiety, fear, depression and any other negative environment is a symptom of the enemy tempting you to partner with him and not God.

Remember, in heaven there is not fear. No anxiety, no depression, no uncertainty. That is Kingdom freedom, and we can have it on earth, today. Now. We don't have to wait until we die and go to heaven to have total peace. It is available here, now.

John 14:27
27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

Walk in God's freedom:

Isaiah 41:10
Fear not, for I am with you”
So do not fear, for I am with you;
    do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
    I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Ask yourself silently if you are in fear, depression, anxiety, or anything else that does not exist in heaven. Then ask God to show you what the true cause of that is. Hold out your hands and hand it to God your Father. SURRENDER it all to Him. Then put your arms down and walk away. Promise your Father that you will NEVER doubt Him again. Promise that you will NEVER pick that up again. You see, He never meant for you to have all the answers. Nor did He mean for you to carry all the burdens. In this simple action you will find the most PERFECT FREEDOM you will ever have.

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

Do Not Be Discouraged, Be Encouraged!

Romans 15:1-7

New International Version (NIV)
15 We who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak and not to please ourselves. Each of us should please our neighbors for their good, to build them up. For even Christ did not please himself but, as it is written: “The insults of those who insult you have fallen on me.”[a] For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope.
May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had, so that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God.


Throughout the entire Bible, in the Old Testament and New Testament, we find God telling His appointed leaders (or having them tell others) to not be discouraged. And even more often to encourage or be encouraged. To stand firm and have courage because He was with them.
Refer to Deuteronomy 31:6-8, Moses to Joshua. Joshua 1:6-9, The Lord to Joshua. 1 Chronicles 22:13 & 28:20 David to Solomon.
Ephesians 3:12-13 Paul to the Gentiles
12 In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence.13 I ask you, therefore, not to be discouraged because of my sufferings for you, which are your glory.

Did they, and do we, believe and trust? Why was it so important to have courage; and is our faith strong enough to withstand the trials and testing that this life brings? Do we believe His word (The Bible), pray, stay in relationship and stand on His promises as stated in His word?

Let's define discourage and its opposite, encourage, and the root of them both, courage.
Webster's Dictionary: Discourage

Billy Graham states that “There are two ways to respond to adversity; discouragement or trust.”
What or who do you think would benefit by using discouragement as a weapon against Christians today? Discouragement is a potent tool of Satan's and will at the very least foster and promote apathy, procrastination, and complacency. When this happens we are disabled in our Christian walk, and poor examples of the good news of Jesus Christ.

Galatians 6:7-9

Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. 9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
Well, haven't we all been discouraged at one time or another in our life? Is anyone here discouraged right now? Did you get over it, and how did you get over it? What should we meditate on in these situations? This is one of the answers:

Philippians 4:4-9 Final Exhortations

Peace I leave with you, my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not be afraid.
We have all experienced discouragement brought on by our personal experiences or what is happening in the world around us. All we have to do is listen to or read the news. I do believe, contrary to some, that knowing and understanding the circumstances and situations in the world helps us to respond better spiritually to those situations. We cannot play ostrich with our heads in the sand. However, our discouragement or encouragement is manifested in how we react or respond to the situations and circumstances we experience or hear about; either personal, natural or man made. We must realize they are Satan's work and are designed to make us fearful, apprehensive, hopeless, depressed, causing us to withdraw and have low self-esteem and self-worth; even sometimes to the point of suicide. This is how Satan distracts us and brings us under his influence. Do not let your situations and circumstances be dictated or be led by your emotions. Use discretion and discernment, and ask the Holy Spirit for guidance.

Philippians 1:9-11

9 And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, 10 so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ,11 filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God.
Fear seems to be one of the biggest detriments to our walk and causes much discouragement. What does God say about fear in His word?

Isaiah 41:10-13

10 So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you;     I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. 11 “All who rage against you will surely be ashamed and disgraced; those who oppose you will be as nothing and perish. 12 Though you search for your enemies, you will not find them. Those who wage war against you will be as nothing at all. 13 For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.

Hebrews 2:14-15

Romans 8:37-39

There are multiple seasons in everyone's life. Good and bad, but all designed for us to move forward, and teaching us along the way. We don't remain in a particular season forever, unless we choose to, or continue to live in the past. We should move on to our ultimate goal. As we have learned, the past is only good to learn what we should or shouldn't do now and in the future. Learn to be patient and content with the present.

Philippians 3:12-14

12 Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. 13 Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:12-13

God gives us different seasons in our lives so that we can grow in courage, ability, understanding, wisdom and authority. He has a path and a purpose laid out for every one of us, our destiny. Although we do have to make that free will choice, however, every choice requires us to make a decision. Ask the Holy Spirit's help, be patient and listen for the answer, and once made, persevere.

Acts 27:25

25 So keep up your courage, men, for I have faith in God that it will happen just as he told me.

God has made many promises in the Bible. Some conditional, some not. We can stand on those promises because the Bible states that God has always kept them. We do our part, and He will do His.

    and faithful in all he does.

2 Peter 1:3-4

Confirming One’s Calling and Election

3 His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. 4 Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.
We must remember the truth of the word and who we are in Jesus Christ. We must remember our spiritual Father God and Creator. We must remember Jesus Christ, the Author of our salvation, redemption, sanctification and justification.

Acts 4:12

12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”

1 Corinthians 6:11

Romans 12:5

We have the Holy Spirit as born again Christians, to lead, guid and council us in our daily lives. We just have to ask and listen patiently and not be distracted. We are all God's children and His love for us is boundless. We have all been forgiven forever for all our sins. We just need to accept this and receive His grace. His word is truth. We will all rejoice in His presence one day. Faith, trust, hope and obedience is the reality of belief in God. Bottom line, we need to build each other up. Supporting and praying with and for and encouraging one another. This has always worked for our benefit and the glory of God. With love on our minds, in our hearts, soul and spirit, we can show the true character of Jesus Christ to the world. And the Holy Spirit will be our instructor, guide and counselor.

Colossians 2:2-3

2 My goal is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, 3 in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
